Maria Vasquez

Hello, my name is Maria and I am running for Senate Chair. I am an international student from Peru and I currently serve as your Activities Senator. I am an honest, driven, and organized diversity advocate who wants to give back to the community and help Mt.SAC students enrich their college experience by promoting co-curricular involvement and helping create equitable opportunities on campus for everyone.

When I first got to Mt.SAC, I found it hard to engage in social activities and would go to campus to study and then immediately go home. However, I later realized that I was missing out on all the amazing opportunities and events the campus (online and virtual) has to offer! Participating in extracurricular activities has helped me get to know your community more, engage with other Mt. SAC students, and make friends. Getting involved on campus in various activities has dramatically improved my college experience and that is why I’m now an advocate for making the most out of the resources provided by Mt.SAC.

I currently work on-campus for the International Student Program (ISP). My involvement in this program sparked my passion for leading, helping students, and promoting diversity and equity, not only for our students but also for faculty. I would love to see a campus where every student can feel represented. Being a part of Associated Students allows me to represent more of you and help make your college experience the best.

As Senate Chair I would serve as a voice and advocate for student concerns, promote and support legislation that represents Mt.SAC’s students and that strives to support them in reaching their academic and personal goals.
